Announcement and Call for Abstracts

CARRFS 2023 SYMPOSIUM

You are invited to the Canadian Alliance for Regional Risk Factor Surveillance (CARRFS) 2023 Symposium on June 19, 2023. The symposium is a pre-conference event of the Canadian Public Health Association (CPHA) Public Health 2023 Virtual Conference (June 20-22, 2023). The CARRFS Symposium will be conducted virtually in English.


Theme: Addressing the social determinants of health inequities through public health surveillance

Date: Monday June 19, 2023

Time: Session 1: 10:30 am - 1 pm EDT & Session 2: 2:00 - 4:30 pm EDT

Keynote and invited speakers:

Session 1:

· Dr. Malgorzata Miszkurka (Public Health Agency of Canada)

· Dr. Julia Mazza (Public Health Agency of Canada)

· Dr. Ahmad Reza Hosseinpoor (World Health Organization)

The Public Health Agency of Canada and the World Health Organization will be presenting a joint talk on health inequalities monitoring at global and national levels, including reporting activities under the Pan-Canadian Health Inequalities Reporting Initiative. Various tools and practices will be featured.

Session 2:

· Dr. Carlos Quiñonez (Western’s Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry)

In this presentation, Dr. Quiñonez will discuss how, over a 15-year period, a research program on oral health-related inequity leveraged existing Canadian datasets to argue for change in Canada’s oral health care system and policy.

 

Objectives:

After attending the CARRFS 2023 Symposium, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand how inequities can adversely affect population health and public health systems.   

  2. Become aware of methods and surveillance systems to identify and monitor health determinants and inequities.

  3. Understand the indicators, and relationships between indicators, for monitoring health inequities.   

  4. Explore best practices for data analysis, presentation, and dissemination of results to effect policy changes.

 

Call for Abstracts:

  • Prospective participants in the CARRFS 2023 Symposium are invited to submit an abstract related to the Symposium theme for an oral presentation.

  • An oral presentation will be 5‐10 min (depending upon the number of abstracts accepted), followed by 2 minutes for Q&A.

  • Presenting authors are expected to use slides to accompany their presentation.

  • Presenters will be presenting live at the event.

  • Please submit abstracts using the Template for abstracts - 2023 symposium — CARRFS.

  • The deadline for submissions is May 31, 2023.
